When I read at World Hum that Sesame Street partnered with Putumayo Kids for a global soundtrack, I clicked right through for a listen. With a reach of 140 countries and broadcasts in multiple languages, I hope this is the first in a series of musical collaborations.
Sesame Street might have given me the foreign language bug. I vividly remember sitting in front of the black and white TV on weekday mornings. I was allowed to watch two shows a day and only PBS. Living in Miami, I would watch the English broadcast of Sesame Street followed by the Spanish version. Luis taught me that “Salida” means door going out, and a good deal more.
You can preview the songs and videos that come with the album at the Putumayo Kids website. My favorites are “Rubber Duckie” in Chinese, the theme song in Dutch, and “Galli Galli Sim Sim” from the Indian show. After listening through, I am ordering a copy. Its a great way to keep the traveling spirit while at home. (more on that soon)
