Mirielle meltdown touring Bali

Mirielle meltdown touring Bali

Ok, it may not be what you most want to remember about traveling with kids, but it is part of traveling with kids.  The meltdown, tantrum, possession by dark spirits – whatever you call it, it is bound to happen sometime.  We try and capture it on film occasionally for the memories (and also so we can explain to Mirielle one day, this is why we don’t owe you anything.)

As I mentioned previously, butler service is invaluable.  Regretfully, out butler, Made (Mah-day), was not able to cheer our grumpy girl up.

Note: I am participating in DeliciousBaby’s super cool Photo Fridays, where everyone is invited to link to a travel photo. Please click here to see more of this week’s photos & stories.

I still feel that way some days on the road! :P

Hahaha! I have so many of these; in fact, my first instinct was to post a meltdown pic in the car seat for Photo Friday. Love it. Your girl is adorable, too.

Poor dear. We have had plenty of these moments ourselves. Luckily in my experience in Asia, most people are sympathetic and not judgmental or hateful about toddler meltdowns like they are in the states!

Thanks for the comments. In could probably have a series “Meltdown Mondays”?

CanCan, you are so right about the sympathy you get in Asia. I realized watching another toddler meltdown in Hong Kong that parenting in America is a lot harder than other places in the world.

    Meltdowns? What!

When this happens I always have to remind myself that we get meltdowns at home too. They’re no better… and then I’m stuck at home with them instead of someplace terrific

You’re right about people being more sympathetic abroad. I’m always surprised about how intolerant people are here in the states… and how they immediately make it about your parenting. The fact is that two year olds & three year olds sometimes just get overwhelmed & can’t control themselves.

  • Linda (minnemom)

Ah, I’ve seen that look on little ones’ faces before. Thanks for showing some travel reality!

Hmm.. I should start doing that. I agree that it’s part of travel with kids. I can only speak from Asia where I came from that we did have more sympathy to parents with young children. I think we know that they are kids and they cry.

Love the fuss-a-lump picture! I’ve got a 13-year-old and a cat who might give her a run for her money, though…

Oh thank goodness my kids are teenagers now, although I guess they just find different ways to express their displeasure!

  • Bali-Dean
