Photo Fridays – Quack and My Shadow

December 12th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Destinations, Photo Friday

Me and my shadow, swimming at the Lake Tahoe Dam.

Quack and my shadow.

Quack and my shadow.

What is it about ducks?  They can provide hours of entertainment for little kids.  This was the most curious of several ducks we met on the Truckee River side of the Lake Tahoe Dam.  You can get a sense of the famous, crystal clear water of Lake Tahoe as well has what a beautiful, sunny day it was.  Even with snow on the ground, when the sun is shining, it can feel quite warm.  (And that keeps me coming back).

What a cool picture! You must be standing on the dam, right? Not it the water? Brrrrr. I’ll never forget the time (summer) when I was tempted to leap into that crystal clear Tahoe water. I’ve never had the breath ripped out of me like that before…

This reminds me of one of our local cider mills…one of the big attractions for kids is the batch of ducks wandering around the site and swimming in a small stream near the mill. It’s one of the reasons we love this particular cider mill so much–they’ve been fairly decent about letting the mill and the natural surrounding area be the major attractions, rather than putting in a lot of cheesy petting zoos, etc.

    Cool shot!

Oh yeah, kids and ducks go together like peanut butter and jelly! My 7 year old & her 10 year old friend from Scotland had a blast this summer catching baby ducks in Bordeaux, France.

Mine still love finding ducks, swans & pigeons to feed and chase around the world! ;) Always entertaining. ;)

That is a great photo! I love it when you can capture shadows of objects…
