Airline executives: Look at what Gulf Air is doing

April 17th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Misc

Nannies in the Sky!   According to its website, “Gulf Air offers a free service dedicated to young travellers, the Sky Nanny.”  From departure gate to disembarkcation, Gulf Air will provide a Nanny to help you and entertain your kids while you get a break.  And it says FREE!!

We would like to visit the Middle East this year and you can bet I will pay extra to fly Gulf Air and stop over in Bahrain.

Any other airlines want to get on board with this service?  You’ll get my travel dollars!

(I read about this on lilSugar – a favorite website)

You mean someone else would drag her through the airport?

We don’t fly with the kids a whole lot, but I’ve been less than impressed with the treatment they get. Recently I got on the plane with my 4 yo son and asked the flight attendents who were greeting people at the entrance of the plane, “Do you have anything for him?” One responded, “Like what?” while the other one said, “No.” I said, “Um, like wings or a coloring book?” and then one of them begrudgingly dug up some wings. Seriously?

When I was 4, my parents flew me back and forth between their separate houses on PSA by myself, lying that I was 5. The flight attendants acted as my babysitters, as I recall.

Love it. I do wish airlines would do things to make it easier for families that fly. And like you said, if they want our travel dollars…

    Megchen,

It sounds like you are adjusting well to East Coast life. Where is Jack working these days? Any chance of a Keough-Geoum-Crane-Taylor reunion in the summer? I will be checking your blog for updates.

Nice to know there are some enlightened airlines out there. On my most recent cross-country trip with my 2 kids (last week, in fact), I was assigned seats in the LAST row. I had to sweet-talk my way to get on on prior to the frenzy of general boarding. Seriously? Do they have any clue how long it takes a mom traveling alone to board with two young kids and a stroller? I was doing THEM a favor and they acted like I was insisting on sitting in first class! Way to go, Gulf Air. Wish you provided service here!

I don’t know when kids became pariahs in the U.S., especially traveling. I think it is why I’m sticking to road trips if I can’t fly an international carrier.
